Welcome to the Hogue family DNA project! The objective of this project is to use documentary and genetic genealogy (DNA) to determine the biological parents of Maria Hogue. Maria is believed to have been born in Kentucky around 1810, however, family lore tells that she was born in Ireland, was the sole survivor of her family during a shipwreck, and that she was adopted upon arriving in the United States.

Maria married Peter Dysart Noel in Scioto County, Ohio on 25 January 1827.  They purchased timber property in Indiana, and then moved to Savanna, Carroll County, Illinois. The couple had five children before Peter died.  Maria then married James Kimball, and had two more children.  In 1852 James Kimball got 'gold fever' and convinced Maria to "cash in" and head west.  The family reached Yreka, Siskiyou County, California on the last day of August 1852.  Maria died five days later.  Her children grew up in Etna, Siskiyou County, California.

We are looking for descendants of the Hogue, Kimball, and Noel families who are willing to share their DNA results to help us in our search for Maria Hogues's biological parents. We are also open to any information you may have on this family through sources and /or family stories.  We are also looking for descendants of Jedediah Hogue, James Burden, MaryAnn Hogue, Nannie Hogue, Benjamin McGraw, James Stowe, Hannah Smith Hogue, and members of the greater Hogue families that may have been in Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, Texas and Illinois.  If you are related to anyone in the trees below, you may be able to help with this project!
